Italian usergroup

The National Observatory of School Canteens involves all stakeholders in the school catering system and handles several issues:

  • technical (menus, food technologies)
  • commercial (contracts, quality requirements, quality of products acquired)
  • nutrition (quality, traceability)
  • health (obesity, food intolerance)
  • educational
  • cultural (e.g. relationship between food and territory).

The Observatory has a supporter committee with members from municipalities, catering companies, and some NGOs (FederBio, ProBER, SlowFood and ACU). This committee will every year set up thematic labs on data analysis, collection of best practices, meetings and forums.

«The School of Flavours» is an annual fair held in Genoa (www.scuoladeisapori-online.it) every October. This is a good opportunity for the Observatory to meet and discuss the results of the previous year and launch the themes for the next year.The Observatory’s function in iPOPY is as a national usergroup.
