First meeting in Danish usergroup

14 participants met when the Danish iPOPY usergroup had its first meeting in May 2008. The group wanted to discuss how the iPOPY project and the national practitioner level can work with organic supply chains and school food. The meeting was arranged along with the nordic seminar "SCHOOL FOOD OF THE FUTURE - Join in the designing of a network: innovative food and nutrition concepts in schools".

The agenda included:

• Objectives and workpackages in iPOPY project, Niels Heine Kristensen, DTU/IPL.
• KØSS København project – constraints and opportunities. Astrid Dahl, KØSS projektet
• Organic school food supplies– suppliers perpective? Jan Michelsen, 1-2-3 skolemad
• Certification of out of home – new European directions. Lisbeth Landstrøm, Fødevarestyrelsen
• Organic school food  - perspectives from a nation wide campaign. Dorte Ruge, Økologiens Hus
• Discussion of the iPOPY project and the future role of the usergroup

The barriers for organic supply chains at schools is an important research challenge. The group also concluded that in general a national solution for the emerging publically provided school food is needed, including the important question whether school food should be for the few or for all. The group concluded that there was a need for continous researcher/practioner cooperation and agreed that the group should meet later in the course of the project. Next meeting will be held January 16th at 9.30-12.00. This meeting will also be held at the Danish Technical University.
